Dominique’s Race Against Ransomware - Part One - Transcript
Narrator: Dominique is a finance executive at the same healthcare facility as Chris, Cindy and Dan. She is currently working on putting together year-end reports for the organization. Dominique receives lots of emails daily from her coworkers with excel attachments for financial reporting.
Anon: Phish, This is it. This is my last chance to launch a successful attack against this healthcare organization. Chris, Cindy and Dan might not have fallen for my tricks, but there are still plenty of fish in the sea to catch…
Hmmm... Now that I think about it, I want to go after the big fish. The ones who might not have time to stay up to date with their cyber security training. If I use the email list I have, I can find some members of senior management to target. Let's see... Here we go!
Dominique is an executive in the finance department. She seems like the perfect target. Going after her might mean some money in my pockets. It is almost the end of the year, and I am sure that Dominique is receiving a lot of materials for the year-end reporting. [laughing]
I will send her a malicious excel file that looks like the documents she would receive every day. Only this one will have a very special surprise… It will download ransomware software on her device once this has been opened. Phish, I have a good feeling about this one. This is going to be an over-whale-ming success!
Narrator: Dominique is working at her desk when she receives an email from her internal security and I.T. team, reminding staff about cyber safety and warning staff members that there may be an ongoing attack from a potential threat. Dominique decides to be proactive and refresh her memory on proper cyber safety protocol. She heads over to cybersecurityontario.ca and partakes in some of the modules to learn more about what she can do to keep herself and her organization safe.
